The 68th season of Bank of America Celebrity Series opens with ‘‘A Cajun Celebration” Oct. 15, featuring the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in a benefit performance for the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund and the Celebrity Series Arts, Education and Community Program.
The season brings 74 performances in 11 venues by performers including major dance companies, orchestras, pianists, singers, chamber music ensembles, and world music, jazz, popular, and folk artists.
‘‘Our core mission remains the presentation of classical artists,” said Martha H. Jones, Celebrity Series executive director. ‘‘Next season we are presenting as many classical attractions as we always have, but we have expanded our reach by diversifying into other areas.”
The Boston Marquee Series, which presents leading local attractions to Celebrity Series audiences, will feature Boston University’s Opera Institute in a production of Puccini’s La Boheme; Kinodance Company in an event copresented by the Boston Cyberarts Festival; and Boston Modern Orchestra Project under conductor Gil Rose in a program including works by Evan Ziporyn, Anthony DeRitis, and Steven Mackey, with DJ Spooky and Rinde Eckert as soloists.
