In 1996, Gil Rose set out to restore a widening disconnect between contemporary audiences and contemporary music—a relatively recent trend in the rich history of orchestras. The result was the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and a new orchestral model. Ten years later, BMOP remains dedicated to its mission and is considered by many to be the leading orchestra for commissioning, performing, and recording modern orchestral music.

Music at the Anthology (MATA) is currently accepting scores for consideration for commissions and performances for the tenth annual MATA Festival in New York City in March 2008. This festival will be presented in participation with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Up to four commissions ranging from solo to orchestral will be awarded. Commission amounts will depend on the scope of the commissioned work. Composers are expected to attend the premiere of their work.

On Friday, June 2, 2006 the Boston Modern Orchestra Project will receive an ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, given annually to honor orchestras whose programming indicates extraordinary efforts to expand the symphonic repertoire and develop and educate orchestra audiences. The Award will be given during the Awards Ceremony and Celebration of the American Symphony Orchestra League's 61st National Conference, be held this year in Los Angeles, California, May 30 - June 3 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites.
BMOP is proud to announce that New York-based composer Lisa Bielawa will be in residence for three yeas beginning in October 2006. BMOP was one of six orchestras nation-wide selected for an extended Music Alive residency, a program of Meet the Composer and the American Symphony Orchestra League.
BMOP announces that its 10th anniversary season will open on November 3, 2006 at Jordan Hall. For 10 years BMOP has been Boston's only orchestra dedicated exclusively to performing and recording new music. Led by founding Artistic Director Gil Rose, BMOP is considered to be the premier orchestra for new music in the country.
Opera Unlimited, a collaboration between Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Opera Boston, announces additional casting, production and ticket information for the North American premiere of Peter Eötvös's Angels in America, based on the Tony Kushner play. Opera Unlimited presents four performances on June 16, 17, and 20 at 8:00 pm and June 24 at 3:00 pm at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.
The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), ends its 2005-2006 concert season with "Big Band." BMOP is one of the few professional orchestras in the United States dedicated exclusively to performing and recording music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Since it's founding in 1996, BMOP has programmed 46 concerts of contemporary orchestral music, released ten world premiere recordings, and won eight ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming.
