Directions & Parking
Driving Directions
Parking in Harvard Yard is limited to those with limited walking mobility and for delivery vehicles (20 minute limit for drop-offs). The Johnston Gate entrance is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Widener Library Gate (along Massachusetts Avenue) should be used for Sunday mornings and non-business hours, as it is staffed 24 hours.
From Boston/Route 93:
Take Storrow Drive West. Bear right for the exit for Harvard Square and at the end of the exit ramp turn right onto a short bridge (the Larz Anderson Bridge). Continue straight off the bridge onto JFK Street. Go straight up JFK Street
to the second set of lights, at which point you will be in Harvard Square.
From the Massachusetts Turnpike:
Take Exit 18 for Cambridge/Allston; bear to the right (for Cambridge). After the toll booths, do not cross over the bridge into Cambridge; instead, take a left onto Storrow Drive West. Bear right for the exit for Harvard Square and at the end of the exit ramp turn right onto a short bridge (the Larz Anderson Bridge). Continue straight off the bridge onto JFK Street. Go straight up JFK Street to the second set of lights, at which point you will be in Harvard Square.
To Enter Harvard Yard:
Bear right; you will see the walls of Harvard Yard and a gate (the Johnston Gate) on your right. Enter the gate and stop at the guardhouse to check in with the Harvard Police. The officer will direct you to the church and parking.
To Park at the Broadway Garage:
Bear right and continue past the main gate of Harvard University. Again bear right and go under the overpass. Bear left after the overpass and continue straight onto Cambridge Street. (The Cambridge Fire Department will be on your right.) Take the third right onto Felton Street and park in the Broadway Garage, a University parking facility on the right.
Parking
On-street metered parking spots are difficult to find. The Harvard University Parking Office at 46 Blackstone Street, 617-495-3772, will furnish a parking pass for $12.00 per daytime weekly permit and $5.00 weekdays after 5:00 p.m. or all day Saturdays and Sundays. The parking office will assign visitors to a Harvard parking area.
Parking For Sunday
Parking for Sunday Services is available in the Littauer parking lot, accessed via the driveway at 33 Oxford Street, the Maxwell-Dworkin Building, until 2:00 p.m.
Driving Directions: To Littauer Lot (LITT) from Soldiers Field Road/Memorial Drive.
Follow the signs to "Harvard Square" and go over the Anderson Bridge which spans the Charles River.
Once over the bridge follow the road (JFK St.) straight into Harvard Square.
Once you pass "Harvard Yard" itself, (you can't miss it), bear to the left to continue on Massachusetts Ave.
Take your first right onto Everett Street and follow to the end.
Take a right onto Oxford St.
The entrance to the Lot will be the first drive on your right.
Continue on through the SEAS Lot, Littauer is at the end.
Note: DO NOT PARK in the AUST (lot is marked) because they are assigned spots and you will be towed. Parking is severely limited in Harvard Yard, and is restricted to those with mobility problems only. Vehicles must not be left on the pathways, where they interfere with the passage of official University and emergency traffic.
