The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), affiliate orchestra for new music at New England Conservatory, will join NEC in sponsoring the 2014 Concerto Competition for works written after 1963.
Provisions: The competition will be held on January 21, 2014, from 11am to 1pm in room 124 of the Jordan Hall building. The competition will consist of one round.
Eligibility: The competition is open to any full-time NEC student, instrumental or vocal, who is enrolled for the 2013/2014 academic year.
Jury: The competition will be judged by a committee. Competitors should be prepared to play the entire concerto/solo with a self-provided piano accompaniment. They should also bring 2 copies of their solo part for the committee.
Results: One winner will be chosen immediately after the close of the competition and will be invited to perform with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project on March 28, 2014. Results will be posted shortly following the competition.

Letters must be postmarked no later than December 20, 2013. Please identify the work you wish to perform, with exact details of duration, orchestral instrumentation and publisher. Please also provide a current resume (maximum 2 pages). Upon receipt of the letter of intent, repertoire requests will be reviewed and candidates will be advised via email by January 13, 2014, as to the acceptability of their repertoire choice.
Candidates should keep in mind the following parameters when choosing a work:
1) The work must have been written after 1963.
2) Duration of the work should not exceed 25 minutes.
3) Orchestral instrumentation should not exceed 65. The work should not require more than 2 percussionists or more than double winds.
4) Multiple-player solo combinations (e.g. double and triple concertos) are acceptable.
