BMOP brings new music to unusual places in its first Club Concert of the season on November 16

Return to index

Boston, MA, October 14, 2004 - The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), will present its first Club Concert of the season at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in the Moonshine Room at Club Café. This informal concert will feature four outstanding musicians from the orchestra - Sarah Bob, piano; Kate Vincent, viola; Robert Schulz, percussion; and Aaron Trant, percussion - performing music by John Cage, Astor Piazzolla, Lee Hyla, Wayne Siegel, Roberto Sierra, Javier Alvarez, and Frances White.

Hosted by Artistic Director Gil Rose, BMOP's Club Concerts have become an important part of the concert season. Audience members have the opportunity to hear the music of their time played outside of the concert hall in a modern-day venue. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, and Club Café's full menu and bar are available throughout the performance for those who wish to dine.

The November 16 BMOP Club Concert includes Living Room Music by John Cage, performed by all four musicians using "found objects"; Astor Piazolla's Le Grand Tango, performed for viola and piano; as well as Lee Hyla's solo piano piece, Third Party, and Frances White's piece for viola and tape, A veil barely seen. The percussionists will perform Roberto Sierra's Bongo-O for bongos, Javier Alvarez's Temazcal for maracas and tape, and Wayne Siegel's 42nd Street Rondo for two percussionists.

Gil Rose believes BMOP Club Concerts add an important element to the Boston music scene. "Our Club Concerts are a terrific opportunity for veterans of new music, as well as newcomers, to experience these exciting pieces in an unusual way," he said. "It's not every day that you get to relax with a drink and hear music like this performed live."

The Club Concert begins at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in the Moonshine Room at Club Café, 209 Columbus Ave., Boston, MA. Doors will open at 6 pm. Tickets are $15 general admission. For more information, directions, parking information, or to purchase tickets, call (617) 363-0396. Tickets are also available online. Club Café is handicapped accessible.
